One of the most significant business decisions for the Dallas Cowboys this offseason will be negotiating a new contract for Micah Parsons. With both Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb already among the highest-paid players in the league, it was expected that Parsons would follow a similar path. However, it seems that Parsons is determined to avoid a contract that could limit the team’s flexibility in free agency.
Recently, Cowboys COO Stephen Jones hinted that the team may face tight salary cap constraints in 2025. This contradicts reports by Mike Fisher, who has detailed how Dallas could free up $100 million in cap space. Now, Parsons has weighed in with his own comments, expressing his willingness to help the team financially.
He stated that he doesn’t “need” a $40 million annual salary and made it clear he does not plan to hold out for a new deal. Parsons also mentioned that he aims to work with the Cowboys’ front office to make sure the team can be active in free agency, saying, “I’m going to try to work with them as much as possible to attack free agency. I want to be back with this team, I want to get these guys right, I want to take big steps.
So hopefully it can be done sooner than later, and that way we can attack other things.” Parsons’ willingness to be flexible counters Stephen Jones’ comments about the cap situation, and he is doing his part to ensure the Cowboys can spend on free agents if they choose. With the ability to free up up to $100 million by restructuring contracts for Prescott and Lamb, the Cowboys have the financial flexibility to sign players, should they decide to. It seems Parsons is doing all he can to push the front office to act, or at least help guide their decision-making this offseason.
