Cowgirls Face Road Test at Creighton

The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team wraps up their month-long road trip with a Tuesday night matchup at Creighton. The game is set to begin at 5:00 PM Mountain Time at Sokol Arena in Omaha, Nebraska.

The game will be broadcast live on FloSports College and can also be heard on the Cowgirl Radio Network with David Settle providing the commentary. FloSports was the same streaming platform used for the Cowgirls’ games during their trip to Puerto Rico.

ABOUT THE COWGIRLS
Wyoming (5-5) is coming off a dominant 79-45 win over South Dakota on Sunday. The Cowgirls led from start to finish, setting multiple season-highs. Wyoming shot a season-best 54.5% from the field and 53.8% from beyond the arc, sinking 14 three-pointers, the most for the team this season. They also recorded season-highs in victory margin (+34) and rebounding margin (+20), along with a season-high 23 assists.

Five players scored in double figures, with Allyson Fertig leading the way with 17 points. Tess Barnes, Emily Mellema, and Ola Ustowska each had 12, while Kati Ollilainen added 10 off the bench. This marked the first time this season that Wyoming had five players scoring in double digits in the same game. Ustowska’s four three-pointers tied her career-high, and Ollilainen’s 10 points were a season-best.

Mellema also played a crucial defensive role, holding South Dakota’s Grace Larkins, who was averaging nearly 23 points per game, to just 12 points on 4-of-13 shooting.

On the season, Fertig ranks second in the Mountain West with 18 points and leads the conference with 10.9 rebounds per game. Barnes is seventh in the league with 1.9 three-pointers per game, and Mellema’s 1.30 assist-to-turnover ratio ranks sixth in the conference.

SCOUTING CREIGHTON
Creighton is led by two-time All-Big East performer Lauren Jensen, who averages just under 20 points per game and a team-high 4.8 rebounds. Jensen is shooting 50.7% from the floor and has made 27 three-pointers at a 44.3% clip. She also leads the Bluejays with 45 assists. Morgan Maly is second on the team with 16.6 points per game and has made 25 three-pointers while shooting 46.3% from deep. Maly also leads the team with nine blocks. Molly Mogensen is second on the team with 42 assists and averages 4.6 rebounds per game.

Creighton averages nearly 79 points per game and allows 66.6 points. The Bluejays are shooting 47.8% from the field and nearly 39% from beyond the arc. Their opponents are shooting 44% from the field and 32% from three. The Bluejays are even with their opponents in rebounding but average over five more assists per game, while committing three fewer turnovers.

Creighton is receiving votes in both of the major top-25 polls.

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST CREIGHTON
Creighton leads the all-time series 13-8 and has won the last six matchups. The Bluejays won last season’s game in Laramie, 73-61, with Allyson Fertig scoring a career-high 30 points in the loss. Wyoming is 1-7 all-time in Omaha against Creighton.
