Buffalo Bills signal-caller Josh Allen is among the leading candidates to secure the 2024 NFL MVP this year. Allen has been exceptional in every aspect. As Sunday approaches, Buffalo holds an 11-3 record and has a slim chance for the top seed. He aims to pursue his MVP case against the New England Patriots further.
Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen leaves the field following a 48-42 victory against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field in Detroit on Sunday, December 15, 2024. Allen and the Bills offense have been on fire, averaging over 41 points per game during their last three outings.
This season, Josh Allen has achieved a completion rate of 64.4% on his passes, totaling 3,395 yards, 25 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He has also run for 484 yards on 91 attempts and scored 11 touchdowns, while averaging 5.3 yards per carry.
On Sunday morning, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport disclosed that Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has been contending with a fractured left hand since Week 1.
Bills quarterback Josh Allen jumps into the end zone for a nine-yard touchdown run after receiving a backward pass from Amari Cooper during the second half of their home game against the San Francisco 49ers in Orchard Park on December 1, 2024.
As the playoffs approach in just a few weeks, fascinating narratives often emerge during the NFL season’s 16th week. On Sunday morning, Ian Rapoport from the NFL Network published a column discussing possible MVP candidates for the NFL this season.
“Reports indicate that Allen has managed to compete for most of his MVP-level season despite having a fractured left hand.”
Allen fractured his non-throwing hand during the fourth quarter of the Week 1 victory against the Cardinals, flying through the air for a touchdown run while being pushed by two opponents and landing on his hand. He promptly stood up to celebrate, but glanced at and shook his left hand.
Allen stated following the game that he was “fine” and did not lose any time. In the team’s following injury reports, Allen appeared as a full participant for every practice leading up to a rapid turnaround against the Dolphins on a Thursday night.
Although it was acknowledged that Allen had a hand injury — he appeared on the injury report until after Buffalo’s Week 12 bye — the specifics and seriousness of his injury had not been revealed earlier. All it does currently is provide some background to the absurdity of what Allen has accomplished this season.
Josh Allen’s ability to play through the injury all season demonstrates just how resilient he has been for this football team. Throughout the entire season with the Buffalo Bills, it hardly appeared as if he was battling a hand injury while playing.
He broke his left hand while diving into the end zone during the game against Arizona in week 1. He certainly caused more harm to that hand during the game against the 49ers a few weeks back. JA17 is simply made differently, competes with great passion, and the entire Buffalo community has adored him since his arrival.
