Shedeur Sanders’ time with the Colorado Buffaloes has ended, and the quarterback is now getting ready for the 2025 NFL draft.
The season concluded differently than Sanders and Colorado wished, losing to Big 12 rival BYU Cougars, 36-14, in the Alamo Bowl, even though they were 2.5-point favorites (ESPN BET).
The junior from Dallas, Texas, wrapped up his last season in Boulder by completing 353 of 477 passes for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, and ten interceptions, while also rushing for four additional scores. His performance garnered him the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year award, and he is widely regarded as the leading quarterback in the draft.
Nonetheless, Ian Valentino of The 33rd Team thinks Sanders will be the second quarterback selected in the draft, being picked by the Cleveland Browns at No. 3 in Valentino’s most recent mock. “Some think it’s impossible for Deion Sanders to permit Shedeur Sanders to go to Cleveland, but leveraging the media doesn’t create much influence,” Valentino stated. The New York Giants dropped in the draft after a 45-33 victory against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 17. This enabled the Browns to ascend, as they were the second team in need of a QB to select after the Tennessee Titans. Cleveland remains tied to Deshaun Watson’s enormous five-year, $230M deal, which extends through the 2026 season.
During his three seasons with the Browns, the ex-Houston Texans Pro Bowler has struggled with injuries, participating in only 19 games, seven of which were in 2024. Yet, when Watson is able to play, his performance has been disappointing. In 2024, he achieved a 63.4% completion rate on his passes for 1,148 yards, with five touchdowns and three interceptions, finishing with a record of 1-6 in those games.
Should Sanders join the Browns, he would have several weapons with him, such as running back Nick Chubb and a wide receiver. Cleveland has sought its future quarterback for numerous years, and Sanders may be the answer.
