Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks received disappointing news earlier this month when it was revealed that wide receivers coach Junior Adams would be departing Eugene to assume the same role with the Dallas Cowboys this offseason.
Adams was viewed as one of the top coaches on the Oregon staff and one of the finest wide receiver developers in college football, preparing players such as Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua, Rome Odunze, Troy Franklin, and Tez Johnson for the NFL, among numerous others.
In typical Lanning style, he bounced back with a notable hire that was announced late Saturday night.
As per CBS Sports’ journalist Matt Zenitz, the Ducks are set to appoint former Syracuse wide receivers coach Ross Douglas, who contributed to the Orange achieving the top passing offense in the country in 2024.
Douglas has also dedicated time to coaching at the NFL level, working as a defensive analyst and serving as the wide receivers coach for the New England Patriots.
Having been an athlete himself, Douglas played for the Michigan Wolverines and Rutgers Scarlet Knights throughout his career before transitioning into coaching after graduation. He will arrive in Eugene with an important mission, assisting in creating a lineup rich in receiver skills.
Oregon features returning players such as Evan Stewart, Kyler Kasper, Justius Lowe, and Jeremiah McClellan, and adds 5-star WR Dakorien Moore, the top WR in the 2025 class, as a true freshman.
Considered a promising talent in coaching, this marks a significant advancement for Douglas, who is expected to keep climbing the ranks if he achieves success in Eugene.
