Speaking to the media on Thursday before the 2025 NFL Combine, Michigan standout tight end Colston Loveland covered various subjects, such as his experiences in Ann Arbor, his abilities as a route runner, and the status of his recovery from off-season surgery. In 2024, Loveland emerged as the Wolverines’ top pass catcher, securing a team-leading 56 receptions for 582 yards and five touchdown grabs.
“It’s feeling well,” Loveland remarked regarding his shoulder. “It’s wonderful.” The surgery was successful, and the x-rays came back looking excellent. “Simply handling each day as it comes.” Loveland underwent surgery on January 29 to fix the AC joint in his right shoulder due to an injury he incurred last September during the game against Arkansas State.
However, aside from the injury, Loveland continued to commend the University of Michigan football program for equipping players for the next level of football.
“It is Michigan.” It’s the coaching team and all that embodies Michigan. They grow. I believe they maximize the potential of each player, and this is evident in the draft. The guys are performing nicely, such as Mikey [Sainristil], and others like him. It simply translates effectively. “At Michigan, our level of effort equips us for anything.”
Loveland also emphasized several of the discussions he’s conducted with NFL teams thus far, including the Colts, Broncos, and Bengals.
“I met with the Colts, and it was a fantastic meeting,” Loveland stated. “I have the desire to accomplish whatever tasks I’m given.” Whether it’s lining up at the line, being out at one, in the slot, or whatever is necessary to assist the team in winning, that’s what I’ll do.
“I’ve had a meeting with the Broncos.” I believe I am among the top route-runners in this draft, and I genuinely think that. I believe my hands are impressive, but clearly, I have many areas to improve in my entire game. However, I believe I am quite refined and eager to continue improving.
