The Dallas Cowboys aim to finalize a long-term agreement with defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa. If the two sides cannot come to an agreement on a new contract, Dallas is said to be inclined to apply a franchise tag on the 26-year-old. The tag would guarantee Odighizuwa’s availability for an approximate $25.1 million in the following season.
Last year, during his fourth season with the Cowboys, the 6-foot-2, 280-pound defender accumulated 47 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one pass defended.
Spotrac estimates Odighizuwa’s market worth to be around an average yearly salary of $21 million. Selected in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, he earned a 68.1 overall rating and was placed 38th among 219 interior defenders, based on Pro Football Focus data.
The Cowboys currently possess only $1.39 million in cap space for 2025, but there are rumors that Dallas plans to restructure Dak Prescott’s contract, potentially freeing up over $35 million in cap space for the upcoming season.
Last year, Dallas’ defense permitted 27.5 points per game, making it the second-worst in the NFL. They allowed 355.2 yards per game as well, which ranked fifth-most.
During this offseason, the Cowboys engaged Matt Eberflus as their defensive coordinator. The 54-year-old served as the Chicago Bears head coach for the previous three years before being dismissed in November.
