The defense of Penn State will appear quite distinct in the coming season.
Initially, it is losing the top defensive player in the nation, Abdul Carter, to the NFL.
Carter is anticipated to be the initial non-quarterback selected in the draft this April. A major factor in Carter’s achievements last season was the impact of Tom Allen, the previous defensive coordinator for the Nittany Lions.
Allen arrived at Happy Valley after his departure as Indiana’s head coach, assisting Penn State in reaching their inaugural College Football Playoff. The 54-year-old coach probably didn’t enjoy his experience at Penn State since he departed for the same position at Clemson.

Allen participated in the 2 Right Turns: A Clemson Football podcast, explaining his reasons for departing from the Nittany Lions.
“Oh, there’s no doubt about it. It was a significant element. I cherished my experience at Penn State, wrote Papiya Chatterjee from Essentially Sports. “James Franklin provided me with an excellent chance.” Adore the players, the coaches, and we enjoyed a fantastic season. However, this chance to keep all three of our kids nearby is a rare occurrence in this line of work. It was simply too great of an opportunity to let slip away.
“Here, my son had the opportunity to join the staff too.” He will serve as an assistant linebackers coach, having played for us in Indiana. He also has a son and our initial grandchild. And he is now one year old. “Having both grandkids nearby…that’s wonderful for my wife.”
