Kansas forward Zach Clemence has officially entered the transfer portal, a KU spokesperson confirmed to The Star. The 6-foot-10, 230-pound San Antonio native spent four seasons with the Jayhawks, redshirting his junior year (2023-24). He becomes the first Kansas player to enter the portal this offseason.
A member of KU’s 2021 recruiting class, Clemence struggled to carve out a consistent role with the team, with injuries significantly impacting his time in Lawrence. He battled back and foot injuries during the 2022-23 season and was limited to just eight games this past season due to a groin injury. Clemence averaged 1.4 points and 1.4 rebounds in 5.3 minutes per game.
If granted a medical redshirt for this season, Clemence could have two years of eligibility remaining.
This isn’t Clemence’s first time in the transfer portal. After the 2022-23 season, he briefly committed to UC Santa Barbara before ultimately deciding to return to Kansas.
The former four-star recruit played his final two years of high school at Sunrise Academy in Wichita, where he averaged 10.5 points and 5.0 rebounds as a senior. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Clemence was the No. 50 overall prospect in his high school class.
