Kansas basketball has made its first move in the transfer portal, securing the commitment of Loyola Chicago guard Jayden Dawson on Friday. The 6-foot-4 guard is coming off a standout All-A-10 season where he averaged 13.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists. Dawson will have one season of eligibility remaining.
In his junior season, Dawson shot 41% from the field and 36.3% from beyond the arc. He scored in double figures in 23 of the 32 games he played, including a season-high 35 points against San Francisco in the NIT. Dawson also had five games where he scored 20 or more points. He averaged 7.4 three-point attempts per game, which made up 64.7% of his total field goal attempts. Additionally, he hit 3 or more three-pointers in over half of his games.
The only game Dawson was held scoreless was against South Florida, but he played just one minute in that contest. Dawson spent three years with Loyola Chicago, gradually moving up from a bench player as a freshman to starting 15 of 26 games as a sophomore, averaging 19.2 minutes per game. In his junior year, he took a major leap, earning All-Conference honors and playing nearly 30 minutes per game.
A native of Omaha, Nebraska, Dawson is now ready to bring his scoring ability and experience to Kansas.
