Kansas basketball faced a significant departure this offseason as six players opted to transfer out of the program. Coupled with the graduation of three key starters, Bill Self was forced to essentially rebuild his roster to support incoming freshman Darryn Peterson.
Out of those six transfers, none had found a new destination until earlier today, when former KU guard David “Diggy” Coit announced his commitment to a new school. After spending one season in the Big 12, Coit will complete his collegiate career in the ACC at Maryland. Notably, he was one of head coach Buzz Williams’ first transfer acquisitions since taking over the Terps’ program.

David Coit has committed to Maryland via the transfer portal. The New Jersey native will return to the East Coast for his final collegiate season. Despite Kevin Willard’s departure from Maryland for Villanova, head coach Buzz Williams has already bolstered his roster with four recent transfer additions.
Before joining the Jayhawks, Coit played at Atlantic Cape Community College and then made his mark at Northern Illinois. After a strong sophomore season, he broke out as a junior by averaging 20.8 points and 3.2 three-pointers per game. His performances attracted interest from Kentucky, Louisville, and TCU before he ultimately became a late transfer addition to Kansas last August.
Thanks to a recent NCAA ruling granting former junior college athletes an extra year of eligibility, Coit is set to play in the upcoming season. Although he initially hinted at finishing his career in Lawrence, he changed course—a move that has become all too common in today’s transfer portal landscape.
Despite being part of one of the poorest-performing Jayhawk teams in recent memory, Coit stood out for his heart and leadership. In fact, Coach Self even described him as the team’s most outspoken leader. As he embarks on his next chapter at Maryland, Jayhawk fans extend their well wishes for his future success.
