AMES – Elkhorn North linebacker Barry Fries entered his weekend unofficial visit to Iowa State with a clear idea of what he hoped to accomplish during his 48 hours on campus.
Not one to drag things out, Fries knew that if the visit went well, he would commit to Iowa State. Even before speaking with Cyclone coach Matt Campbell, Fries was already texting his parents, telling them he planned to commit to playing for Iowa State’s all-time winningest coach.
“I wanted to take one last trip down there, as it’s a big decision,” Fries said. “I’m really happy with the decision I made in the end.”
“They were my first offer, and getting that offer meant a lot to me. It showed that they truly believed in me and were actively recruiting me. I felt confident that they would help develop me,” Fries said.
Fries is one of three recent defensive commitments from Nebraska to join Iowa State’s 2026 recruiting class. The Cyclones also secured commitments from linebacker Keian Kaiser and cornerback Tyrell Chatman. Along with Fries, these three Nebraskans join Amarion Jackson and Kaprice Keith as players from Nebraska who have committed to the Cyclones in the 2026 class.
