The college basketball scene has changed so much that players rarely stay with the same team for multiple years. Transfers are common, and many players find themselves at three or four different colleges before their eligibility runs out. While some manage to form lasting duos and tandems, even amid all the movement, the best teams manage to bond quickly, even in a short time. This appears to be the case for this season’s Wisconsin Badgers.
Xavier Amos, who transferred from Northern Illinois last offseason, gradually became a key contributor for the Badgers and developed close friendships with his teammates. As he enters his fourth season of college basketball, Amos has chosen to enter the transfer portal once again, and John Blackwell is saddened by his departure.

John Blackwell quickly took to X after the news broke that Xavier Amos was entering the transfer portal, posting a heartfelt message: “Imma miss u my boy.” This simple yet meaningful post all but confirms that Amos is moving on to new opportunities, likely with no intention of returning.
Blackwell, on the other hand, is testing the NBA Draft waters. However, unless he receives a particularly high evaluation, he plans to return for another season with the Badgers. His post about Amos’ transfer, rather than any mention of going pro, suggests that Blackwell is most likely staying in Wisconsin for at least one more year.
Amos played a solid, though limited, role for the Badgers last season, averaging 9.7 minutes per game and providing crucial depth off the bench for coach Greg Gard. However, after averaging over 30 minutes per game during his previous season at Northern Illinois, Amos is likely seeking a situation where he can play a more prominent role. If he stayed at Wisconsin, he’d likely remain in a depth role once again.
