There’s no question that St. John Bosco (Calif.) point guard Brandon McCoy Jr. and Paul VI Catholic (Va.) shooting guard Jordan Smith Jr. are top priorities for Duke head coach Jon Scheyer in the 2026 recruiting class. The pair makes up two-thirds of the Blue Devils’ reported wishlist for the cycle and were the first from their class to take visits to the storied program.
Notably, McCoy and Smith made their trips to Durham during the same weekend in early November, highlighting their potential connection.
Although they play high school basketball on opposite coasts, Brandon McCoy Jr. and Jordan Smith Jr. have developed a close friendship and have kept the idea of teaming up at the next level on the table.
When asked by NBA TV’s Krysten Peek this week about the possibility of forming a package deal with Smith in college, McCoy, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound five-star ranked No. 2 overall in the 2026 class by 247Sports Composite, responded, “I think so. I mean, location isn’t really a problem for me when it comes to school. I’m open to different types of experiences…”
Smith, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound five-star ranked No. 4 among the nation’s top prep juniors, echoed McCoy’s thoughts.
“Yeah, I’d love to play with Brandon,” Smith said. “I agree with everything he just said… We really complement each other well on the court. We’re compatible and play great together.”
“We just feed off each other really well.”
