The first bit of offseason scheduling news for the UNC basketball program emerged with reports that the Tar Heels will open their season by hosting Central Arkansas on November 3, marking the season debut for both teams.
Now, another non-conference matchup has been added to UNC’s 2025–26 schedule.
The Tar Heels are set to welcome in-state foe East Carolina to the Dean E. Smith Center, adding to the non-conference lineup in what will be Hubert Davis’ fifth season at the helm in Chapel Hill.
Separated by just about 100 miles, UNC and East Carolina are set to meet for the fourth time in their series history. Their last encounter came during the 2014–15 season, when the Tar Heels dominated with a 108–64 win at home, keeping their perfect record against the Pirates intact.
East Carolina wrapped up this past season with a 19–14 record and earned the No. 6 seed in the American Athletic Conference Tournament. Their schedule featured several in-state matchups, including games against North Carolina A&T and UNC Wilmington.
The upcoming game is slated for December 22, with the tipoff time to be announced later.
