The spring transfer portal window officially opens on Wednesday and remains open through April 25
Freshman linebacker David Amaliri announced Tuesday that he intends to leave the Gophers football program and enter the NCAA transfer portal. Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 210 pounds, Amaliri becomes Minnesota’s first scholarship player to hit the portal this spring.
Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Amaliri was part of the Gophers’ 2024 recruiting class. He redshirted last season and didn’t see game action. After wrapping up his high school career at Clearwater Academy International in Florida, he retains four years of eligibility.
“I am forever grateful for my time at Minnesota,” Amaliri shared on social media, expressing appreciation for head coach P.J. Fleck, the coaching staff, and his teammates.
The spring transfer portal window officially opens Wednesday and runs through April 25.
Among the most notable players to enter the portal so far is California running back Jaydn Ott, who rushed for 1,315 yards in 2023—14th most in the nation—and 385 yards last season. Minnesota is set to face Cal in Berkeley on Sept. 13.
