Indiana secures one of the top sharpshooters from the transfer portal

Lamar Wilkerson, a former guard at Sam Houston State, committed to Indiana on Tuesday.”

Indiana men’s basketball secured one of the best shooters in this offseason’s transfer portal when former Sam Houston State guard Lamar Wilkerson revealed his commitment to the team on Tuesday.

Wilkerson posted averages of 20.5 points, 4 rebounds, and 2.1 assists, shooting 44.5% from beyond the arc in 34.9 minutes per game for Sam Houston State last season. He even played at Assembly Hall in Bloomington during a nonconference game.

Indiana edged out Kentucky for his commitment. Although Wilkerson had initially planned to visit Auburn, he canceled that trip after visiting both Bloomington and Lexington over the weekend.

This is a significant win for new Indiana head coach Darian DeVries, who is building his first Hoosiers team almost entirely through the transfer portal. Wilkerson’s addition ensures another starter alongside Tucker DeVries and likely Reed Bailey.

While there’s still more to be done, it’s a strong start to the offseason for Indiana.
