After working as offensive coordinator under DeBoer at Washington in 2022 and 2023, Grubb was expected to join him at Alabama for the 2024 campaign. However, Grubb continued to serve as the offensive coordinator for the Seahawks in Seattle until last month.

For 2024, DeBoer appointed Nick Sheridan as offensive coordinator and

JaMarcus Shephard as co-offensive coordinator. After joining DeBoer from the Washington staff, Sheridan and Shephard collaborated with Grubb.

Grubb, who oversaw the offense in 2020 and 2021 at Fresno State under DeBoer, will take over once more. In 2007, the two began working together at DeBoer’s alma mater, the University of Sioux Falls, an NAIA institution.

Later, they collaborated as assistants at Eastern Michigan and Fresno State, where Grubb stayed after DeBoer left to take a position as offensive coordinator for Indiana.

Grubb’s hiring was initially announced by Yea Alabama, Alabama’s NIL collective.

With quarterback Michael Penix Jr. as the Heisman Trophy runner-up and an NFL first-round draft pick, Washington advanced to the national championship game and finished second in the nation in passing in 2023.
