Breaking: Penn State Altoona men’s volleyball athletes win all AMCC weekly honors.

NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. — On Monday, March 3, the Penn State Altoona men’s volleyball team received two additional weekly honors as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference revealed its players of the week.

Opposite hitter Caleb Fries from Altoona was recognized as the AMCC’s Offensive Player of the Week, while middle blocker Landen Fisher, also from Altoona, received the title of the league’s Defensive Player of the WeekFries and Fisher played key roles in guiding the Penn State Altoona men’s volleyball team to two 3-1 victories on the road last week against Wilson College and Mount Aloysius College.

On Feb. 26 at Wilson, Fries achieved a match-high of 17.5 points with 10 kills, a match-leading six service aces, one solo block, and one block assist. He followed this by leading all participants in a March 1 game at Mount Aloysius, scoring 18 points with 15 kills, four block assists, and an ace.

During the week, Fries recorded 35.5 points (4.4 points per set), 25 kills (3.13 kills per set), seven aces (0.88 aces per set), and six total blocks (0.75 blocks per set), achieving an attack percentage of .242. He presently tops the AMCC in kills (210), kills per set (3.33), aces (33), aces per set (0.52), total points (266.0), and points per set (4.2).

Fisher topped all players in total blocks against Wilson, registering four block assists in the win. He once more recorded the highest block total at Mount Aloysius, accumulating six block assists and one solo block.

During the week, Fisher recorded a total of 11 blocks (one solo block and 10 block assists) and had an average of 1.38 blocks for each set. Among all competitors in the AMCC, he currently holds the third position in block assists (36) and total blocks per set (0.79), while ranking seventh in total blocks (38).

The men’s volleyball team at Penn State Altoona has an overall record of 10-7 this season. The Lions will maintain their schedule on March 7 and 8 during the Nazareth University Tournament.
