The Penn State Nittany Lions currently hold the No. 8 recruiting class in 2026, according to 247Sports’ rankings.
James Franklin’s program has eight recruits committed to arrive in Happy Valley after the upcoming 2025 college football season, including four-star safety recruit Matt Sieg.
Unfortunately for the Nittany Lions, the program missed out on one of its top targets with a recruiting announcement on Tuesday.
Four-star safety recruit Kaden Gebhardt announced his commitment to the Clemson Tigers, choosing Dabo Swinney’s team over Penn State and several other top programs.
Gebhardt is a highly-touted, 6-foot-2 safety out of Lewis Center, Ohio. He’s the No. 7 player in the state of Ohio and the No. 15 safety in the nation, according to 247Sports’ rankings.
Gebhardt, who was recruited by Penn State safeties coach Anthony Poindexter, had an official visit scheduled with the Nittany Lions on June 12 of this year. He made two unofficial visits with the program last November.
Gebhardt’s commitment to Clemson marks the latest in a string of huge recruiting wins for the Tigers. Swinney’s 2026 recruiting class now ranks No. 2 in the nation, trailing only the USC Trojans.

The Nittany Lions will kickoff their 2025 college football campaign with a season-opening matchup against the Nevada Wolf Pack on Aug. 30.
