Kansas forward Zach Clemence has entered the transfer portal, KU Athletics confirmed Friday morning.
This marks Clemence’s second stint in the portal. After initially leaving KU and committing to UC Santa Barbara following the 2022-23 season, he ultimately changed course and returned to Lawrence over the summer.
He took an unconventional mid-career redshirt and returned to play last fall, averaging 1.4 points and 1.4 rebounds in eight appearances before a groin injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season.
Though listed as a redshirt junior, Clemence may still have two seasons of eligibility remaining due to the injury.
The 6-foot-10 San Antonio native, who attended Sunrise Christian Academy in Wichita, played a limited role for the Jayhawks after arriving as a freshman ahead of their 2021-22 national championship run. He reached double figures in scoring twice—posting 11 points against Stony Brook as a freshman and 10 against Oklahoma as a sophomore. Over four seasons, including his redshirt year, he appeared in 52 career games.
With Clemence’s departure, KU no longer has any remaining players from its championship squad heading into the 2025-26 season. He also becomes the first scholarship Jayhawk to enter the transfer portal in nearly two years, as the program had no such departures following the 2023-24 season.
In the short term, KU will seek additional frontcourt depth behind Flory Bidunga, who just wrapped up his freshman season, alongside early enrollee freshman Bryson Tiller, who is still recovering from a long-term ankle injury.
