During his tenure at McNeese State, new NC State basketball head coach Will Wade often favored guard-heavy lineups, relying on athleticism over size to gain a physical edge for his team.
It looks like Wade may follow a similar strategy in his first season with the Wolfpack, as he and his recruiting staff have been heavily focused on adding transfer guards rather than big men.
Despite already securing commitments from former McNeese State guards Alyn Breed and Quadir Copeland, Wade is continuing his efforts to bring in more veteran backcourt talent.
On Tuesday, On3’s Pete Nakos reported that Wade and NC State are set to host Michigan State transfer guard Tre Holloman for a visit.
After spending three seasons at Michigan State as a key reserve, Holloman entered the transfer portal following the Spartans’ NCAA Tournament loss to Auburn last weekend.
Holloman’s role expanded during his third year with the Spartans, starting in about half of their games. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound junior averaged 9.1 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game.
NC State isn’t the only program vying for Holloman’s commitment. He has also lined up visits with Baylor, Villanova, and the Wolfpack’s archrival, UNC.
The upcoming visit to NC State indicates mutual interest between the two, and with North Carolina also in the mix, the competition for Holloman’s commitment is likely to intensify, putting added pressure on Wade to persuade the former Spartan to join the Wolfpack.
