As the 2024-25 season officially wraps up, teams across the nation are turning their focus to securing top portal targets. With Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer reportedly having access to $8-10 million in NIL funds, the time has come for him to make a big move.
According to reporter Adam Zagoria, Scheyer and his staff have set their sights on Princeton point guard Xaivian Lee, who is widely regarded as one of the top point guard options available. However, Duke isn’t the only program vying for Lee’s commitment, as Hubert Davis and several others are also in pursuit.

Duke and North Carolina are both vying to secure point guard Xaivian Lee, with both programs eager to land the talented player.
Duke’s head coach Jon Scheyer is facing a significant rebuild, as several of his top players—including Cooper Flagg, Khaman Maluach, and Kon Knueppel—are projected to be high first-round picks in the NBA Draft later this year. Despite this, recruiting for Duke remains an enticing proposition, and landing Lee could be a game-changer.
Lee is coming off another impressive season at Princeton, where he’s played for the past three years. In 2024-25, the Toronto native posted averages of 16.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game, which has drawn attention from a wide range of schools.
On the other hand, Hubert Davis and the North Carolina coaching staff have yet to land their ideal point guard for this offseason. After missing out on multiple targets, they are now focusing on Lee, though Michigan State transfer Tre Holloman will be visiting Chapel Hill for an official visit this weekend.
For Duke, the program is fresh off a Final Four appearance, and although an unexpected comeback by Houston prevented them from reaching the National Championship, Scheyer has already moved on. He’s setting his sights on portal players who will help elevate his team for the 2025-26 season.
If Scheyer successfully lands Lee, it would not only be a significant addition for Duke but would also cause further frustration for UNC fans, making this recruitment one to watch closely.
