NORMAN — Unlike last year, when it took Oklahoma over a month to secure its first commitment after the transfer portal opened, head coach Porter Moser and his staff wasted no time addressing the Sooners’ roster needs this offseason.
On Monday, just two weeks into the 30-day transfer portal window, Oklahoma landed its first commitment — and it’s a significant one: Tae Davis, a 6-foot-9 forward who spent the last two seasons at Notre Dame. Davis not only committed to Oklahoma but also announced his decision to explore the NBA Draft this offseason.
Davis has until June 15 to withdraw from the draft and keep his college eligibility. While he’s testing the draft waters, the expectation is that he will join the Sooners for the 2025-26 season, marking a major addition for Oklahoma as it heads into Year 5 of the Moser era.
Davis is ranked as the No. 44 overall player in the transfer portal and the eighth-best small forward, according to 247Sports’ rankings. The 6-foot-9 forward is known for his versatility, capable of playing on the wing, in the frontcourt at the four, or even as a small-ball five if needed. His ball-handling skills add another dimension to Oklahoma’s forward position.
Rated as a four-star transfer, Davis is coming off his best season at Notre Dame, where he was one of the most improved players in the ACC. He averaged career highs with 15.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game, finishing second on the team in both scoring and rebounding. Davis also finished third in ACC’s Most Improved Player voting and earned a vote for Defensive Player of the Year.
