The 2025-26 season will mark the Colorado men’s basketball team’s first meeting with a former Pac-12 rival since the conference’s realignment.
According to national college basketball reporter Jon Rothstein, the Buffaloes are set to face Stanford in a nonconference matchup this December in Phoenix. While the exact date has yet to be finalized, a source confirmed the game details to BuffZone.
Stanford wrapped up the 2024-25 season with a 21-14 record, including an 11-9 showing in its debut campaign in the ACC. It was also the first year under head coach Kyle Smith, who previously led Washington State. The Cardinal made it to the second round of the NIT before falling at home to Kent State. Their standout performer, 7-foot-1 forward Maxime Raynaud—an honorable mention All-American—has since graduated.
Historically, the Buffs have found success against Stanford, compiling a 17-4 record against the Cardinal during their 13 seasons together in the Pac-12. After losing the first two matchups in 2011-12, CU won 17 of the next 19 meetings, including the last seven straight.
Colorado leads the all-time series against Stanford 20-11.
With the Big 12 returning to an 18-game conference slate, the Buffaloes will have 13 nonconference games to schedule for the 2025-26 season. The Stanford matchup is the second confirmed non-league game, joining a previously announced rivalry showdown at Colorado State in Fort Collins.
