Mike White is aiming to build on Georgia basketball’s momentum following the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance in ten years. That effort reportedly continued Sunday with a big addition from the transfer portal.
Per Joe Tipton of On3 Sports, Georgia has secured a commitment from former BYU freshman Kanon Catchings. A former 4-star recruit and top-50 national prospect, Catchings starred at Atlanta’s Overtime Elite during high school and was among the premier talents in the 2024 class.
During his freshman season at BYU, the 6-foot-9 forward averaged 7.2 points and 2.2 rebounds per game, while connecting on 35% of his attempts from beyond the arc. Catchings is said to have picked Georgia over North Carolina in the transfer process.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Kanon Catchings was ranked as the No. 41 overall prospect and the No. 8 power forward in the 2024 recruiting class. As a transfer, he also earned a 4-star rating from 247Sports.
While the transfer portal has brought its share of losses for Georgia—most notably Silas Demary Jr. heading to UConn and RJ Godfrey transferring to Clemson—it’s also delivered key reinforcements. Catchings becomes the third transfer addition for the Bulldogs this offseason, joining Justin Bailey from Wofford and Jeremiah Wilkinson from Cal.
