The Braves have dealt with their fair share of injuries since the beginning of the 2024 season, and the latest concern centers around Marcell Ozuna, who was noticeably absent from the starting lineup in the series opener against the Blue Jays.
Ozuna has been the Braves’ most productive hitter this season—and arguably their top offensive performer since early 2023. In just 15 games, he’s already launched three home runs while boasting a batting average over .300, an on-base percentage close to .500, and an OPS north of 1.000.
Atlanta’s offense has stumbled out of the gate, ranking 29th in MLB in runs scored with only 49—better than just the Rockies. Losing Ozuna, even temporarily, would be a significant blow, and his absence is especially alarming considering he played in all 162 games last season.
According to manager Brian Snitker, Marcell Ozuna—nicknamed “The Big Bear”—is dealing with a minor leg issue. Snitker downplayed the severity, calling it nothing serious. However, Braves fans have heard that tune before. Similar reassurances have preceded lengthy absences for several players over the past year, making it hard not to be skeptical.
Hopefully, Marcell Ozuna returns to the lineup tomorrow, because the Braves desperately need to start stringing together wins. That’s a tough ask when the lineup is filled with names like Bryan De La Cruz, Stuart Fairchild, Nick Allen, and Eli White. Without Ozuna’s bat, it’s an uphill climb for an offense that’s already struggling.
