However, what seemed like a significant addition to South Carolina’s backcourt has now taken an unexpected twist.
According to Joe Tipton of On3 Sports, Eaglestaff has decommitted from South Carolina and will re-enter the transfer portal to reassess his options. The news is a blow to the Gamecocks, who had hoped the high-scoring guard would play a key role in their 2025–26 campaign.
As the transfer portal continues to evolve, South Carolina will now look to fill the void and reengage in the competitive race for top-tier talent.

Eaglestaff, who initially committed to South Carolina after transferring from the University of North Dakota, announced this week that he will reopen his recruitment and explore other opportunities. In a statement to The Field of 68, he acknowledged the difficulty of the decision.
“This was a difficult decision, but after discussing this with my family this is the best course of action for my future,” Eaglestaff said.
His departure adds to a growing list of changes within the Gamecocks’ roster as head coach Lamont Paris and his staff look to reload for the 2025–26 season. With talent moving in and out, the program remains active in the portal, seeking impact players who can fill critical roles in the months ahead.

His standout performances included a 51-point outburst in the Summit League quarterfinals, where he also recorded four rebounds, four assists, and hit eight three-pointers.
Eaglestaff’s departure isn’t the only one shaking up the Gamecocks’ roster. South Carolina will also be without Nick Pringle, Zach Davis, Arden Conyers, and Austin Herro—each of whom is set to move on from the SEC program.
