Former South Carolina Guard Zachary Davis Commits to Memphis
Another former South Carolina basketball player has found a new home. Zachary Davis announced Thursday that he is transferring to Memphis, where he will play his final year of eligibility under head coach Penny Hardaway.
Davis, who visited Memphis last weekend, made the announcement via Instagram, writing, “I’m comin M town.”
A 6-foot-7 guard, Davis brings experience and versatility to the Tigers. Over three seasons with the Gamecocks, he appeared in 95 games—32 of them in the 2024–25 season—starting 19 and averaging 8.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. He posted a career-high 22 points against Florida in January.
Originally a three-star prospect out of Denmark-Olar High School and South Carolina’s Class A Player of the Year, Davis entered the transfer portal on March 24. He becomes the third portal addition for Memphis this offseason, joining Julius Thedford and Quante Berry.
Hardaway, a four-time NBA All-Star, has guided Memphis to three NCAA Tournament appearances in four seasons. The Tigers are coming off a dominant 29-6 campaign, winning both the American Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles.
Davis is one of eight South Carolina players to hit the portal this offseason. He joins Arden Conyers (Charlotte) and Nick Pringle (Arkansas) as Gamecocks who have already committed to new programs
