Graduate guard Sion James impressed throughout the season with his two-way presence at Duke.
During a recent appearance on The Brotherhood Podcast, James reflected on his lone year with the Blue Devils: “Better than I ever could have hoped, honestly. I’ve gotten better here… I had the time of my life, and I would do it again 100 times out of 100.”
When asked how he plans to present himself to NBA teams during pre-draft interviews, James was clear and direct: “Just a winner. Someone who’s about all the right stuff… who helps highlight other players and bring out the best in the people around me. Of course, there’s the shot-making and passing, but that’s the biggest thing I want teams to know.”
After four seasons at Tulane, Sion James transferred to Duke in May 2024, bringing veteran experience and a defensive mindset to Durham.
In 39 games (32 starts) for the Blue Devils, James averaged 8.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.9 assists, while shooting a sharp 41.3% from three. His efforts on the defensive end earned him a spot on the 2025 ACC All-Defensive Team.
Before arriving at Duke, James turned in a standout 2023–24 campaign at Tulane, posting career highs with 14.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.6 steals per game, along with 38.1% shooting from beyond the arc.
At Duke, James recorded a season-high 16 points on two big stages—once in March against rival North Carolina, and again in the East Region final versus Arizona during the NCAA Tournament. His steady leadership helped guide a young backcourt and played a key role in Duke’s run to the Final Four, the program’s first since 2022.
Now, with the 2025 NBA Draft on the horizon, James is drawing interest as a potential late second-round pick, according to ESPN’s latest mock draft.
