UNC basketball recruiters have landed a guard who took a major leap during his sophomore season at Virginia Tech.
As of Friday, Jaydon Young is officially joining the UNC basketball program. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound guard from Goldsboro, N.C., brings valuable ACC experience with him to Chapel Hill.
A former three-star recruit out of Greensboro Day School (N.C.) in the 2023 class, Young saw limited action as a freshman at Virginia Tech, averaging just 1.8 points and 8.5 minutes over 26 appearances off the bench during the 2023-24 season. However, he made significant strides last season, becoming a key contributor for the Hokies. Young played in all 32 games, earning 10 starts, and averaged 8.1 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists — though he struggled with efficiency, shooting 34.7 percent from the field and 29.6 percent from three for a team that finished 13-19 overall.
According to the 247Sports rankings, the 20-year-old Jaydon Young sits at No. 354 overall and No. 84 among shooting guards in this year’s transfer portal.
With Young’s addition — a player who could carve out a steady role for the Tar Heels — UNC’s five-man 2025 transfer class now ranks No. 16 nationally, per 247Sports, and No. 2 in the ACC, trailing only Louisville’s three-player haul.
