As of Friday, Jaydon Young is officially a member of the UNC basketball program. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound guard from Goldsboro, N.C., joins the Tar Heels bringing valuable ACC experience with him.
Young, once a three-star recruit out of Greensboro Day School in the 2023 class, saw limited action as a freshman at Virginia Tech, averaging 1.8 points and 8.5 minutes across 26 games off the bench during the 2023-24 season.
However, he carved out a much bigger role this past season, appearing in all 32 games for the Hokies, including 10 starts. He averaged 8.1 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game, though he struggled with efficiency, shooting 34.7 percent from the field and 29.6 percent from three-point range. Virginia Tech finished the year 13-19 overall.
According to the 247Sports rankings, Jaydon Young is currently listed as the No. 354 overall prospect and No. 84 among shooting guards in this year’s transfer portal.
With Young’s addition, who has the potential to establish a steady role with the Tar Heels, UNC’s 2025 transfer class now ranks No. 16 nationally, according to 247Sports. It stands at No. 2 in the ACC, trailing only Louisville’s three-player haul.
