With spring practice now behind them, the Wisconsin football coaching staff has shifted its full attention to assembling the 2026 recruiting class. After hosting a number of high-profile prospects on recent visits, several top recruits are nearing their commitment decisions. One of them is a Badgers legacy who could soon follow in his uncle’s footsteps. Following a visit to Madison last weekend, one of head coach Luke Fickell’s top targets named his four finalists as he approaches a commitment date set for just two weeks from now.

Four-star tight end Gavin Mueller has narrowed his recruitment to four power conference programs: Colorado, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, and LSU. The 6-foot-5, 255-pound junior from South Elgin High School made the announcement via social media, confirming that he’s “down to four” as he nears his May 14th commitment date.
Mueller, a rising prospect with just one season of organized football under his belt, already holds 18 Power Five offers. He has taken official visits to Wisconsin and Notre Dame, with trips to Colorado and LSU still on the schedule.
Ranked as the No. 40 tight end nationally and the No. 17 player in Illinois by the 247Sports Composite, Mueller has quickly established himself as one of the top prospects in the Midwest. If he chooses Wisconsin, he would continue a family legacy — his uncle, Nick Mueller, played running back for the Badgers in the late 1990s.
Wisconsin’s 2026 recruiting class currently ranks 11th in the Big Ten, per 247Sports. The Badgers have secured commitments from six players so far: defensive lineman Carmelow Reed, wide receiver Tayshon Bardo, quarterback Ryan Hopkins, cornerback Carsen Eloms, and offensive linemen Maddox Cochrane and Benjamin Novak.
