Four South Carolina Gamecocks will compete at the 2025 USA Basketball 3X Nationals this weekend in Mesa, Arizona.
Joyce Edwards, Chloe Kitts, Tessa Johnson, and Maddy McDaniel will represent South Carolina in what will be the first 3×3 basketball experience for all four athletes.
Edwards brings prior international success, having won gold with the 2023 FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup team and participating on the 2024 Women’s U18 National Team. Kitts also has a decorated background, earning gold medals at both the 2022 FIBA Women’s U18 Americas Championship and the 2023 FIBA U19 World Cup.
McDaniel has participated in USA Basketball training camps in 2023 and 2024, while Johnson is making her debut on the USA Basketball stage.
The women’s tournament will feature 16 teams, including programs from Florida, Oklahoma State, South Dakota State, TCU, and Vanderbilt. Teams are divided into four pools for competition.
The 3X Nationals event will also serve as an evaluation platform for selection to future USA Basketball 3×3 men’s and women’s national teams, including the 2025 FIBA 3×3 World Cup.
South Carolina has been building a strong connection to the 3×3 format. Former Gamecock Allisha Gray helped lead Team USA to its first-ever Olympic gold medal in 3×3 at the Tokyo Games. More recently, Sania Feagin powered Team USA to gold at the 2023 3×3 World Cup, a performance that fueled her standout senior season.
3×3 basketball is played on a half court with a 10-minute game clock and a 12-second shot clock. The first team to reach 21 points, or the team leading at the end of regulation, is declared the winner.
