Former Arizona center Henri Veesaar is ranked No. 30 overall and No. 6 among centers in the transfer portal. Meanwhile, only one other UNC basketball transfer target cracks the top 100—former Colorado State guard Kyan Evans—who just barely makes the cut at No. 99.
Yes, the Tar Heels are bringing in a strong three-man recruiting class led by five-star forward Caleb Wilson. And as of now, they’re expected to return just two scholarship players from last season’s team. Of those, only senior Seth Trimble saw consistent playing time during the 2024–25 campaign.
Given all this, it’s little surprise that many college basketball analysts remain skeptical of Hubert Davis’ roster heading into his fifth season in Chapel Hill.
On Thursday night, national analyst John Fanta released his latest projected top 25—UNC didn’t make the list.
Fanta projects just two ACC programs to open the season inside his top 25. Still, both land in his top 10: No. 7 Louisville and No. 9 Duke.
UNC, by contrast, began the 2024–25 season ranked No. 9 in the AP Top 25 Poll. But by early December, the Tar Heels had fallen out of the rankings entirely—and never climbed back in—ultimately finishing a disappointing 23–14 overall.
