Stetson Bennett was selected by the Los Angeles Rams with the 128th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Upon hearing his name called, he immediately entered the conversation as a potential future successor to veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford. Having played college football for the Georgia Bulldogs, Bennett led them to back-to-back national championships. While he may not possess extraordinary athleticism, he is often overlooked or dismissed in NFL discussions.
Entering his third training camp with the Rams, Bennett finds himself in a familiar situation. If some fans have their way, this will be his final camp with the team. This isn’t new territory for Bennett, as after stepping away from football in 2023, many of the same fans advocated for his release. Yet, he remains on the Rams’ roster, positioned behind Stafford and veteran backup Jimmy Garoppolo. To be fair, any young quarterback drafted in the last few years would likely be in a similar position on the depth chart.
It’s somewhat ironic that, despite both Rams GM Les Snead and head coach Sean McVay discussing a quarterback succession plan, the team’s quarterback lineup remains unchanged from last year. The 2025 NFL Draft wasn’t considered deep in quarterback talent, with the focus shifting to other positions. Nevertheless, the Rams did meet with several rookie quarterback prospects.
It’s possible that the Rams shifted their quarterback focus from the 2025 to the 2026 draft once they acquired a first-round pick from the Atlanta Falcons. This move also sets up a new competition for playing time in the 2025 Rams training camp. Bennett is still part of the roster, and his competitive drive remains as strong as ever.
Bennett’s journey is not one of smooth sailing. He walked on at Georgia and didn’t exactly receive a warm welcome. But what defines him is his relentless determination—a competitor who raises his game when the stakes are highest.
Standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 190 pounds, Bennett isn’t known for his physical prowess—his 40-yard dash time is a solid 4.67 seconds. But when it comes to playing football, he’s the kind of player you don’t want to face. He’s a proven winner, willing to do whatever it takes to come out on top.
