Indiana Hoosiers basketball standout Mackenzie Mgbako has announced a groundbreaking $3.5 million investment to establish a new resource center and transitional housing initiative for homeless youth in Bloomington. The center, named “Mgbako House,” aims to offer shelter, meals, educational support, and job training to young people facing housing insecurity.
At just 20 years old, Mgbako is using his platform as a rising NCAA star to address one of Indiana’s most pressing social issues. “Basketball gave me purpose, but giving back gives me peace,” Mgbako stated during an emotional press conference on Thursday. “These kids deserve safety, structure, and the same chance I was given.”
The facility, expected to open by summer 2026, will operate in partnership with local nonprofits, Indiana University, and state child welfare agencies. The initiative is already being lauded by campus leadership and community activists as a potential model for athlete-driven philanthropy.
