Former Miami commit Matt Able visited NC State’s basketball program in late March, and just over a week later, he pledged his commitment to first-year head coach Will Wade. He made it official during the April signing period. Now, the standout shooting guard from Sagemont Prep School (Fla.) is back in Raleigh—this time as an official five-star member of the Wolfpack roster.
On Monday, the 6-foot-5, 190-pound Able shared a photo from NC State’s Dail Basketball Center on his Instagram Story, captioned with two “home” emojis. The message was clear: he’s not just visiting anymore—he’s home.
Able, currently ranked No. 26 overall in the 2025 recruiting class, has seen a meteoric rise, jumping nearly 200 spots in the 247Sports Composite rankings over the past nine months.
“He’s a three-level scorer with the ability to use his height and athleticism to attack the rim,” head coach Will Wade said of Matt Able when announcing his signing in mid-April. “He’s also got a solid midrange game and can really catch fire from beyond the arc.”
Wade added, “He’s only beginning to tap into his potential, but he has all the tools to be a difference-maker here at NC State.”
Able joins a 2025 recruiting class that includes Christ School (N.C.) four-star big man Zymicah Wilkins and Congolese center Paul Mbiya, helping the Wolfpack secure a No. 35 national ranking for the cycle.
