Indiana secured a major win on the transfer market by landing Lamar Wilkerson, one of the most elite pure shooters in college basketball last season at Sam Houston. The recruitment battle was fierce, and when Wilkerson left Bloomington without committing—then visited Kentucky—it looked like the Wildcats had gained the upper hand. But after Indiana head coach Darian DeVries made an in-home visit, Wilkerson reversed course and committed to the Hoosiers, becoming the fourth transfer addition alongside Tucker DeVries, Isaac Enright, and Myles Bailey.
“Being recruited by Kentucky was an honor,” Wilkerson told Field of 68. “But I didn’t want to be just another name that came through there. Indiana basketball is a storied program that’s hungry to get back to where it belongs. I believe in Coach DeVries, in the culture he’s building, and in how he’s going to put us in position to win. This journey, together, can elevate both of our stories—and bring Hoosiers basketball back.”
On the Court
Wilkerson brings elite perimeter shooting to Bloomington. He hit 109 of 245 attempts from beyond the arc last season—an impressive 44.5%, which ranked seventh nationally. Only 12 players in Division I made more threes. A junior college product turned standout at Sam Houston, Wilkerson also shot 50% on two-pointers and 82.5% from the free-throw line.
He’s expected to step immediately into Indiana’s starting backcourt, anchoring a revamped offense built around shooting and spacing.
Scouting Breakdown
Wilkerson is a 6-foot-5 sharpshooter with a well-rounded offensive game and an extra year of eligibility thanks to his JUCO roots. He’s dangerous off movement, capable of running pick-and-roll, and increasingly effective attacking closeouts. Though there are some concerns about his defense, his shot-making ability more than compensates.
