Breaking News: UConn Standout Stars Selected for Wooden Award Midseason Top 25.

LOS ANGELES – Redshirt senior Paige Bueckers and freshman Sarah Strong from the UConn women’s basketball team were selected for the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 list, as revealed by the Los Angeles Athletic Club on Tuesday.

Bueckers tops the Huskies with an average of 19.9 points per game and has 60 assists. This season, she has delivered nine performances scoring 20 points. Bueckers is among the top guards in the country, boasting a shooting percentage of 55.9 from the field and 40.3 from beyond the arc this season. She is positioned eighth in the nation with a 3.16 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Bueckers claimed the 2021 Wooden Award during her freshman year and was recognized as a 2024 Wooden Award All-American.

The top-ranked recruit this season, Strong has been a dominant player for the Huskies. She has achieved double-digit scores in every game, including six 20-point performances and three double-doubles. Strong leads UConn in rebounds, blocks, and steals while being second in scoring.

Strong is the sole freshman included in the Wooden midseason top 25.

UConn is among five programs that have several players included in the midseason list.

UConn will be back at the XL Center next Wednesday to face Xavier (5-9, 0-3) at 7:30 p.m. The Huskies will host Pride Night to recognize the LGBTQ+ community.
