The North Carolina men’s basketball team has officially learned its conference opponents for the 2025–26 season.
Next season, North Carolina will host Duke, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Florida State, Clemson, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Louisville, and Notre Dame at the Dean Dome. The Tar Heels will travel to face California, Stanford, SMU, Miami, Georgia Tech, NC State, and Virginia, with additional road games against Duke and Syracuse for repeat matchups.
The ACC recently reduced its conference schedule to 18 games from 20, eliminating two home-and-home series. Previously, UNC played Duke, NC State, and a rotating third opponent twice annually. Starting next season, each ACC team will have one permanent rival played twice yearly, with one additional rotating opponent. For UNC, Duke remains the permanent rival, and Syracuse is the rotating opponent for 2025-26, meaning only these two teams will face the Tar Heels twice.
This change ends NC State’s annual visit to Chapel Hill, a tradition since 1919, and frees up two additional non-conference games, which have been significant for UNC in recent years. Additionally, each ACC team will skip one conference opponent annually; for UNC, that’s Boston College this season.
Official dates and times for these matchups are yet to be announced.
