Clemson secured former Alabama edge rusher Jeremiah Alexander from the transfer portal on Wednesday to address one of its primary defensive needs.
The Tigers have now signed three players via the portal, which includes Purdue defensive end Will Heldt and Missouri State receiver Tristan Smith.
Coach Dabo Swinney faced criticism for his hesitancy to utilize the portal previously, especially after Clemson brought in no players from the portal during the 2024 cycle. Swinney, on the other hand, stated, “Our focus is on what’s best for Clemson, whether that means acquiring a portal player or recruiting a high school athlete, and it’s assessed annually.”
Alexander, a past five-star recruit from the 2022 class, played in high school alongside current Clemson defensive lineman Peter Woods in Alabaster, Alabama. The duo secured a state championship together in 2021.
During his three seasons at Alabama, Alexander experienced restricted playing time and shifted between outside and inside linebacker positions.
Swinney dismissed defensive coordinator Wes Goodwin earlier this week and has yet to appoint a successor.
