Former UNC player Ven-Allen Lubin has committed to in-state rival NC State, further strengthening the Wolfpack’s already impressive transfer class.
Lubin becomes the second Tar Heel to make the move to NC State in the past two years, joining Dontrez Styles, who played for the Wolfpack last season after stints at Georgetown and UNC.
According to 247 Sports, Lubin marks the eighth transfer to join NC State under new head coach Will Wade. Wade was hired in March 2025 after the dismissal of Kevin Keatts earlier that month.
With Lubin’s commitment, 247 Sports now ranks NC State’s incoming transfer class as the 13th best in the nation.
The news was first reported by On3’s Joe Tipton on Monday.
“North Carolina transfer forward Ven-Allen Lubin has committed to NC State, he told @on3 🐺,” Tipton tweeted.
In response, Seth Trimble, a 6-foot-3 guard who just completed his third season at UNC, shared a video on social media showing himself confronting an NC State player.

Lubin, a 6-foot-11 forward from Orlando, averaged 8.6 points and a team-leading 5.5 rebounds per game last season for the Tar Heels. He really turned it up toward the end of the year, posting 13.6 points and 7.7 rebounds per game over the final 10 contests. During that stretch, he also registered double-doubles in four of the last six games.
Lubin’s decision to transfer to NC State has caught many Tar Heel fans off guard. In April, he entered the transfer portal but made it clear he was still considering a return to North Carolina.
He addressed the situation on X, saying, “Before anybody jumps to the wrong conclusion, I am letting everyone know that I am entering the transfer portal with full intent on returning to UNC. My action relates to the complexities surrounding the possible approval of the pending NCAA settlement.”
Before his lone season at North Carolina, Lubin spent his freshman year at Notre Dame and his sophomore year at Vanderbilt. His upcoming season with the Wolfpack will be his final year of college basketball eligibility.
