Indiana sophomore forward Zania Socka-Nguemen has been selected to represent the United States on the 2025 USA Basketball Women’s U19 National Team.
A native of Silver Spring, Maryland, Socka-Nguemen appeared in 16 games during the 2024–25 season with the No. 1 overall seed UCLA Bruins, averaging 1.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in 5.1 minutes per game.
Previously, she was named a 2024 McDonald’s All-American and starred at Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C. She was ranked as a four-star recruit and the No. 30 overall prospect in the 2024 ESPN HoopGurlz Recruiting Rankings.
Indiana head women’s basketball coach Teri Moren will once again represent the United States as the head coach of the USA Women’s U19 National Team for the 2025 FIBA Women’s World Cup.
This marks Moren’s second consecutive year leading the U19 squad in international competition. Last summer, she guided the USA U18 Women’s National Team to a gold medal at the FIBA AmeriCup. Moren also served as an assistant coach for gold medal-winning teams in 2022 and 2023, and first joined USA Basketball in 2021 as an assistant at the U19 National Team Trials.
Team USA will open group play on July 12 in Brno, Czech Republic, facing Korea, Hungary, and Israel in Pool A. The Americans have captured gold in each of the past three tournaments and in nine of the last ten editions of the event.
Back at Indiana, Moren led the Hoosiers to a 20–13 overall record and a 10–8 mark in Big Ten play during the 2024–25 season. IU made its sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, entering as a No. 9 seed. The Hoosiers defeated No. 8 Utah in the first round before falling to top-seeded South Carolina in the Round of 32.
