Virginia Tech Hosts Priority Recruits Ahead of 2025 Season — Eyes on Four-Star Commit Amare Gough
This weekend marks the final opportunity for recruits to take visits before the 2025 season begins in August, and Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry is making it count. The Hokies are hosting 11 Class of 2026 prospects in Blacksburg — including one particularly high-profile visitor.
Four-star wide receiver Amare Gough, a Richmond native and Syracuse commit, headlines the list. Gough pledged to Fran Brown and the Orange on May 25, but has remained active on the recruiting trail. Since his commitment, he’s taken visits to Virginia (June 5), Maryland (June 13), and now Virginia Tech. He even made a return trip to Syracuse just five days after announcing his commitment.
Virginia Tech Pushing to Flip Top In-State Talent
Gough’s continued visits suggest his recruitment is far from over. A dynamic 6-foot-1, 175-pound receiver from Thomas Jefferson High School, Gough brings elite separation speed and big-play ability — traits the Hokies are actively targeting in this cycle.
Ranked No. 9 in Virginia and No. 214 nationally in the 2026 class by 247Sports, Gough is a coveted prospect. While Syracuse made an early move, Virginia Tech, Maryland, and Virginia all remain in the mix to potentially flip the in-state standout.
Receiver is a position of need for Virginia Tech following the recent decommitment of South Carolina native Carnell Warren, who is visiting North Carolina this weekend. Warren is the second major offensive recruit to back off his pledge to the Hokies, following four-star quarterback Peyton Falzone’s flip to Penn State last fall.
Pry currently holds five commitments in the 2026 class. If the group remains small, securing a flip from Gough would be a major win — both in talent and momentum — as the Hokies look to solidify their in-state recruiting presence.
