The final wave of weekend visitors has come and gone, and this time around, Virginia Tech football head coach Brent Pry and his staff welcomed nearly a dozen Class of 2026 recruits to Blacksburg — including several top priorities.
One of those recruits wasted no time in making his decision. Not long after his visit wrapped up, Virginia Tech landed another in-state commitment — this time from Virginia Beach — adding to their growing 2026 class. Even more impressively, the Hokies won out over two ACC programs, including a long-time rival.
Virginia Tech lands commitment from cornerback Zaevion Cleveland of Virginia Beach
Shortly after his official visit to Blacksburg, three-star cornerback Zaevion Cleveland announced his commitment to Virginia Tech, choosing the Hokies over Syracuse and in-state rival Virginia. Cleveland had previously visited both programs earlier in the month, but his final stop in Blacksburg sealed the deal. He becomes the second Green Run High School player to commit to Tech in just over a week.
The 6-foot-4, 185-pound cornerback reconnected with several former teammates during his visit — his second trip to Blacksburg after attending Virginia Tech’s Spring Game in April. His commitment marks a significant addition to the Hokies’ 2026 class and a major win for Brent Pry and his staff.
Cleveland becomes the sixth commitment in the 2026 class and the fourth in just nine days. Edge rusher Kamren Johnson kicked off the recent run on June 13, followed by defensive lineman Kamdon Gillespie the next day. Offensive lineman Buddy Wegdam also announced his pledge last week.
While this recruiting class may remain smaller than some of Pry’s previous groups, Cleveland is a strong pickup in the secondary — and his decision to choose the Hokies over two other ACC programs only adds to the momentum.
