Kyle Tucker Drawing Major Interest Ahead of 2025 Free Agency
Kyle Tucker is set to become one of the most sought-after names on the free-agent market following the 2025 MLB season, and several teams are expected to pursue the star outfielder.
MLB Network’s Jon Heyman recently reported that while the Chicago Cubs remain in the mix to retain Tucker, both the San Francisco Giants and Boston Red Sox are emerging as strong contenders for his services.
“He is one of the most, if not the most consistent hitter in baseball,” Heyman said during an appearance on MLB Central.
MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand echoed that sentiment, calling Tucker the “crown jewel” of a free agent class that could also feature marquee names like Pete Alonso, Dylan Cease, and Bo Bichette.
While the Red Sox already boast a crowded outfield — including top prospect Roman Anthony and 2024 Gold Glove winner Wilyer Abreu — there could be room to maneuver. Heyman noted that Jarren Duran’s name has surfaced as a potential trade candidate.
Tucker, a left-handed slugger with power and defensive prowess, would fill a significant gap in Boston’s lineup, particularly after Rafael Devers — who had transitioned to DH — was dealt to the Giants earlier this month.
Before joining the Cubs via trade from the Astros, Tucker was a three-time All-Star in Houston and earned both a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger. Despite missing time in 2024 due to a shin injury, the 28-year-old still posted 23 home runs over 78 games.
This season, he’s continuing his strong performance with the NL Central-leading Cubs, slashing .285 with 15 home runs, 46 RBIs, 18 stolen bases, and 16 doubles through 76 games.
Landing Tucker won’t come cheap. According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the belief is that he could command a contract exceeding $400 million.
