Blue Springs, Missouri native and four-star defensive end Ronelle Johnson has announced his commitment to Indiana, choosing the Hoosiers over Missouri, Kansas State, and Ole Miss. He becomes the second commitment of the weekend for Indiana’s football program.
Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 260 pounds, Johnson held an impressive list of offers, including Iowa, Oregon, Purdue, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Iowa State, Kansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Texas A\&M, and others.
As a junior in 2024, four-star defensive end Ronelle Johnson put together an impressive season, recording 60 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles. The Blue Springs, Missouri native has now committed to Indiana, choosing the Hoosiers over Missouri, Kansas State, and Ole Miss. He is the second commitment of the weekend for Indiana’s staff and adds another marquee name to an already strong recruiting class.
Johnson becomes the 21st commitment in Indiana’s 2026 recruiting class, which now ranks No. 25 nationally according to the 247Sports Composite. The Hoosiers also hold the No. 8 spot in the Big Ten for the cycle, per the Rivals Industry Ranking.
“Ronelle Johnson is one of the more physically impressive prospects on the defensive side of the ball in this 2026 cycle and has the numbers off the field to back it up as well,” wrote Rivals National Scout Cody Bellaire. “During his sophomore track and field season, Johnson threw over 49 feet in the shot put and 138 feet in the discus. That raw power shows up on Saturdays where he can be seen bullying offensive linemen at the point of attack. But Johnson has some impressive bend and ability to get after the quarterback as well, with advanced hand usage for his age and excellent burst off the line of scrimmage. One of the safest prospects on the defensive side of the ball in 2026.”
