Micah Parsons, who played college football at Penn State, is no stranger to the passionate and intense Philadelphia Eagles fan base. As a result, the Dallas Cowboys’ star defender has made it clear that, regardless of the outcome in Week 16, he will not be cheering for the Eagles, even if it could help keep Dallas’ playoff hopes alive. A win for the Eagles over the Washington Commanders on Sunday would keep the Cowboys’ postseason dreams alive, but Parsons simply cannot bring himself to root for Philly. “Nah, at this point, it’s (expletive) Philly,” Parsons said. “Even if we got eliminated, I gotta crush Philly. (Expletive) them. I hate them now. I be seeing them talk so much on social (media).”
It’s unclear exactly what has sparked Parsons’ strong dislike for the Eagles, though it seems partly directed at their fans. Since being drafted by the Cowboys in 2021, Parsons, a native of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, has helped Dallas win two division titles. While his home-state fans can sometimes be overbearing, this rivalry still holds significant weight for Parsons, even if it impacts Dallas’ playoff chances. His strong comments, stating he would rather see the Cowboys eliminated than witness the Eagles win, are surprising coming from a veteran leader. It’s possible Parsons recognizes the slim chances of the Cowboys making the playoffs, regardless of the Eagles’ performance, and would prefer to start the offseason early. However, it’s still unclear why he feels this way when a playoff berth remains a possibility.
