Fast Cars, Fast Plays: Arkansas Freshman Keiundre Johnson Ready to Rev Up Razorbacks’ Defense
FAYETTEVILLE — It’s only fitting that one of the Arkansas Razorbacks’ top defensive recruits is into high performance — both on the field and under the hood.
Freshman defensive end Keiundre Johnson, a self-proclaimed car enthusiast, is already drawing attention in fall camp for his explosive speed off the edge. The pass-rusher from Texas has big expectations for his first year in Fayetteville — and he’s bringing a motor that doesn’t quit.
“I can’t lie, I’m into those big time,” Johnson said with a grin when asked about his off-field passion. “Like, I’m really big into it. I’m always messing with my car all the time. I’ve got an S1 Camaro, and I’m always in it.”
But Johnson’s not just revving engines in his free time. On the gridiron, he’s looking to provide what Arkansas desperately needs — fast, disruptive action on defense. With only one returning starter on the defensive line and All-SEC standout Landon Jackson now in the NFL, the Razorbacks are searching for new faces to spark the pass rush.
Arkansas finished the 2024 season with just 26 sacks, tied for 11th in the SEC alongside Vanderbilt — a statistic that defensive coordinator Travis Williams hopes to improve with fresh energy and relentless pursuit.
“Keiundre’s got that first-step quickness and bend you can’t teach,” Williams said. “He’s raw, but he’s fearless — just like when he’s behind the wheel. We expect him to push for snaps early.”
Johnson says he envisions being a key part of the defensive rebuild and is fueled by more than just horsepower. His mindset is simple: keep moving, keep hitting, keep pushing.
“I want to be in on every play. TFLs, sacks — all that,” Johnson said. “I’m trying to bring something this team can count on.”
With fall practices heating up and the season opener just a month away, the Razorbacks hope Johnson’s motor — both literal and figurative — helps drive them toward a much-needed resurgence on defense.
And if his impact on the field is anything like his Camaro, Razorback fans might want to buckle up.
